Mayer Lutheran High School is a Lutheran community committed to providing a foundation of Christian (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) education.

MAYER LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL

Mayer Lutheran High School is a community of approximately 250 students in grades 9-12. Students commute from 52 surrounding communities (distances of up to 45 miles), including Arlington, Hutchinson, Shakopee, Buffalo, and Wayzata. Situated in a beautiful rural setting on 26 acres, the campus has an ever-expanding facility, including a 1997 addition of a state-of-the-art fine arts facility. Mayer Lutheran was founded in 1961 and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.


FACULTY

The faculty members at Mayer Lutheran High School are dedicated individuals committed to Christian education. They act as friends, advisors, coaches, and mentors to the students. Over 40 percent of the faculty have advanced degrees; the faculty average 15 years of teaching experience. Mayer Lutheran's student/faculty ratio is 14:1, allowing continuous opportunities for individual help and attention. While helping students to discover, develop and utilize their God-given gifts in all activities, faculty reach out daily in a spirit of love and concern in classrooms, chapel and co-curricular settings.


TECHNOLOGY

Technology opportunities at Mayer Lutheran High School challenge students to stay current and knowledgeable in an ever-changing world. Opportunities include exposure to multi-media, digital presentations, and access to Internet sources in classrooms and the Media Center.


ADVANCED PLACEMENT

Advanced Placement courses challenge students and are offered in English, U.S. History, and Calculus AB.


CURRICULUM

The curriculum at Mayer Lutheran encourages success. Students generally carry seven periods of classwork daily. Graduation credit requirements include: Religion 1/2 credit per semester enrolled; English 4; Social Studies 3 1/2; Science 3; Math 3; Physical Education 1; Computer Skills 1; Art 1/2; Music 1/2; Health 1/2; Fine Arts 1 credits combined Art/Music; Electives 6. Elective choices include additional credits in core courses, industrial arts and modern language opportunities. The total number of credits required for graduation is 21, plus religion credits.


POST-GRADUATE

Although 90 percent of Mayer Lutheran graduates continue their formal education beyond high school, the curriculum is designed to provide for all levels of learning. Post-secondary opportunities, independent studies and individual programs allow each student to build a challenging schedule to fit his or her individual interests and strengths.


CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Along with school activities, Lutheran High students are given many opportunities to develop new relationships, as well as maintain involvement with family, work, church and community. Over 90 percent of all Lutheran High students are involved in school-sponsored co-curricular activities including: Academics - National Honor Society, Yearbook, Chess, and Spanish tours; Athletics - Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Cheerleading, Dance, Wrestling, Baseball, Softball, Track, and Golf; Fine Arts - Drama, Musicals and competitions; Leadership - Active Christian Teens (ACT), Student Activities Team (SAT) and Joyful Noise; Music - Concert Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Pep Band, competitions, and tours.


TRANSPORTATION

Busing is available from many locations including the Waconia, Chaska, Watertown, Excelsior, Wayzata, Howard Lake, and Glencoe areas. Assistance with car-pool arrangements is also provided.


COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Friends of Mayer Lutheran High School encompass an entire "family" of involved parents, alumni, association churches and community members, providing a long tradition of community support. While the Lutheran High School Association churches number 15, Mayer serves more than 30 area churches. Members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod comprise more than 85 percent of the student body.


FINANCIAL AID

In an effort to assist those families who wish to have their student enrolled at Mayer Lutheran High School, the school has made financial aid available to families on a need-basis only. Last year more than $70,000 was distributed for student need-based aid. Application forms are available upon request.
