Rationale
All people have failed to keep God’s law perfectly.  According to the law of God, each of us must pay the price for our failure.  However, Jesus Christ has paid our debt for us.  Out of response to God for His love, we have the opportunity to strengthen our personal relationship with our Lord.  The Holy Spirit begins, maintains, and builds this relationship.  The religion curriculum at LHS, with the blessing of the Holy Spirit, encourages students in their spiritual relationship.  Students develop the skill of Biblical interpretation, investigate the writings of other Christians, and are encouraged to apply their faith to their lives.  The courses are arranged to further develop previous concepts and teachings and prepare the next generation of Christian leaders.

Goals of the Department
Based on this rationale, the goals of the Religion Department are to help students:
1. develop a deeper relationship with Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord,
2. interpret the Bible correctly,
3. understand the concepts and facts of Christian teachings,
4. understand the origins and teachings of Christianity, and
5. apply their faiths to their lives so that they may witness to others.

Department Goal Achievement Strategies
The goals of the religion curriculum will be achieved through:
1. use of the Bible during each class period,
2. daily prayer journals and monthly prayer vigils,
3. service projects within the community and area churches,
4. chapel worship and leadership, and
5. daily Bible study.
