Music is a gift of God.  It is a special blessing because He asks His creatures to use that gift to praise His Holy Name (Psalm 95; 96; 98; 150) The study of music allows us to develop aesthetic sensitivity, self-expression and creativity.  In music, people find the freedom and means to express their most personal thoughts and emotions.  This expression is vital to our emotional growth and well-being and contributes to our spiritual well-being.

The goal of the music department is to give each student a rich experience in music and

• provide students with opportunities to express and nurture their faith through their God-given talents,
• help students understand the value of music and other arts in modern society,
• provide quality musical experiences for students in a variety of styles,
• enhance musical experience through use of technology, and
  develop students’ understanding of music terminology.

Jesus Christ is Lord of all aspects of our lives.  As Christians we feel that our striving for excellence in music, as in any other human activity, is an act of praise, thanksgiving, and therefore, worship.  In the Music Department, students will

• share and strengthen their faith with each other in an environment that is open to sharing,
• perform and rehearse quality literature,
• share their talents in worship services, tours, and community events,
• interact with music professionals through clinics, guests soloists, festivals andconcerts, and
• use computer programs to strengthen ear training, learn music terminology, compose music, practice improvisation, and develop rhythmic reading skills.
